The Real Deal About Chemical Peels with Glytone

You guys know I love trying new things, especially when it comes to beauty. That’s why I was SO excited when my friends at Glytone reached out and asked me to try one of their chemical peels at Lapiel Laster Center here in Chicago! I had never gotten one before, so I was a complete newbie to the whole process, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying it!

Typically, when one thinks chemical peel, they likely think of Samantha in Sex & the City with a red, peeling face. Don’t worry, today’s post will entirely change that viewpoint! I’m breaking down my own chemical peel experience with Glytone and Lapiel, my before and after pictures, benefits of getting one and more. Keep reading below to take a look!

Chemical Peel 101

First, let’s start by answering the question, “What exactly is a chemical peel?” Well, at its core, it’s a skin treatment that can radically improve the skin’s appearance. It reveals new skin underneath the surface that is smoother, less wrinkled, etc. Virtually anyone is a great candidate for a peel! It helps your skin look like you, but just better.

There are several kinds of peels for various skin concerns, but we decided to go with Glytone’s Mandelic Peel after a quick consultation to go over my skin type, goals and so on. My main goals were to even out my skin tone (I have quite reactive skin that reddens easily), improve my subtle scarring and hyper-pigmentation, as well as make my skin more glowy and dewy.

What’s great about Glytone’s chemical peels specifically is that they’re super quick, easy and have no social downtime like most others. They’re often called “lunchtime peels” because women can go get one on their lunch break and don’t have to worry about dealing with very much redness or peeling. Gone are the days of fearing chemical peels!

The Benefits

So, what can a peel really do for YOU? Well, honestly, almost anything! I went into this peel to heal my post-summer skin. After months of sun exposure (and damage), some pretty bad breakouts after going off my Spironolactone and clogging my pores with thick sunscreens, I could REALLY use the chemical peel I ended up getting. Here’s what else chemical peels can help with, generally:

  • Reduce fine lines
  • Treat certain types of acne
  • Soften wrinkles caused by sun damage and aging
  • Diminish the appearance of acne scars and age spots
  • Improve the overall look and feel of the skin

Keep in mind Glytone has a range of chemical peels, so some only have one to two day recovery periods while others may have up to seven days. It all just depends on your skincare goals! But don’t fret, no matter what you choose, chemical peels are not scary and you don’t have to worry about looking like Samantha afterward.

My Experience

Let’s start with my thoughts on the whole process. Overall, I really loved it! It was super quick. Mine only took about twenty minutes and I felt absolutely NO discomfort whatsoever, but this can vary from person to person. I was expecting some tingling, though I didn’t have any.

In my before pictures, my skin mostly looks dehydrated and super dull. As I mentioned before, I have a bit of acne scarring, especially along my chin, as well as some small, active breakouts. Immediately after the chemical peel, my skin felt tighter, the texture on my cheeks was completely gone and most of all, I looked SUPER glowy and dewy! Just what I wanted.

After this experience, I would most certainly recommend everyone goes and tries out a chemical peel, at least once! I never thought I would want to get them regularly, but now I’m obsessed with how my skin looks. I don’t even think I need foundation or concealer and I’ve never felt that way before!

What do you think of chemical peels after reading a bit more about my experience? Have you ever gotten one? I want to know! Share with me in the comments below. Have a great week, everyone!
