My 2018 Goals

Well, hi there! It’s been a little too long since I’ve grabbed my laptop and randomly decided to write a blog post on a whim for you guys. Some months I’m more relaxed about my posting, while others I have everything written and scheduled out. I’m sure you can guess which the holiday season aligned with! Hint: it’s the latter.

Nonetheless, I’m back and better than ever, ready to conquer 2018 in every aspect. In my personal relationships, career, blog, faith, wellness, and everything in between. In spirit of that, I’m sharing some of the goals I’ve set for the coming year. Take a look at them below and don’t forget to share yours in the comments!

Refocus on my health and wellness goals.

Last year, I learned a lot about myself in regards to working out and eating healthy. I touched a bit on it in this post. I taught myself discipline and did reasonably well with being consistent and following a routine. This year, I want to continue my fitness journey, but simply refocus my goals, which are to work out 4-6 times a week (cardio/weightlifting split), lose some weight, and make more meals than I buy/eat out.

Part of this goal is also not drinking alcohol for the whole month of January. During the past few months, I’ve found it makes me more anxious than usual, which is never fun. Hopefully, not drinking for the whole month will also lessen how often I drink for the rest of the year.

Dedicate more time to reading and writing.

I love both reading and writing. I always have, but I never make enough time for either. I want to spend more time in silence doing things I love like this. Sometimes I feel like I always have to have noise in my head like having a conversation with someone or listening to music or podcasts (you get the idea) to distract me from my thoughts. However, quiet time is obviously so important for taking care of yourself so it’s something I hope to prioritize more in 2018.

Go to church or stream it online every week.

My spiritual journey has been a long-time coming and I think I may write a post about it another time, but for now, I’ll simply share that this goal is very important to me. I’ve gone to Soul City Church every Sunday since the start of December and I LOVE it there. At the end of this year, it would make me so happy to say I went or tuned in online every week. Taking part in the service one way or another will help me develop a better relationship with both myself and God.

Put 20-30% of each paycheck into savings.

While it might hurt to do every two weeks, I know I won’t regret it at the end of the year. I spent a little too much of my savings during the holidays (accidentally getting towed in Chicago didn’t exactly help), so this is a huge priority for me. I want to save, save, save so that next year, Austin and I can travel to some of the places on our bucket list and maybe even more into a nicer apartment.

Establish social media usage boundaries.

While I’m just beginning my career in social media, I want to start establishing boundaries between myself and my usage of it early on. While it is both my job and hobby, I’d love to wake up and go to bed every night without my phone in my hands. I want to spend the first and last 30 minutes of each and every day with just a book or my thoughts, no screens or social apps. This includes actually shutting off my phone at night. What a concept!

What are your goals for 2018? Let me know in the comments below! I’d love to hear them.
