5 Activities for a Great Self-Care Sunday

Sunday has always been one of my favorite days of the week. It’s the last day of the weekend, which means I typically spend it thinking how great the weekend itself was. It’s also the first day of a new week so I use it to recharge and refocus for the days ahead. Lastly, it’s a day of rest and for some, even a day of spirituality.

All of this makes it the perfect day to spend a little more time on YOU because whether you want to come to terms with it or not, you need taking care of! Especially if you are easily stressed out and anxious like me. Below, I’m talking more about self-care and my favorite things to do each Sunday to better myself.

1. Do a lengthy skincare routine

For some, this may not seem very relaxing, but to me, taking the time to complete my whole skincare routine is soothing. Of course, part of this typically¬†also includes the application of a face mask. If you’re not into going all out with skincare or it simply overwhelms you, do just a face mask on its own! While you wait for it to work its magic, do one of the next three activities. Do a detoxifying charcoal mask or an always flattering sheet mask (just kidding on the flattering part) ūüėā

2. Light some candles

If this seems like a small task, it’s because it surely is! Lighting candles is¬†all about setting the tone and mood for your day. When I wake up on Sunday, I love to light one of my larger candles to burn all day and make the apartment smell incredible. It’s so soothing to read a book just before bed with a candle lit. Same thing with a bath! Candles make everything better, especially seasonal ones. Find a scent you ADORE. Two of my favorites are Capri-Blue’s Volcano candles and Bath & Body Works’ Sweater Weather.

3. Read a book

I love reading self-help, career, and motivational books but I rarely make the time for them unless I’m on the bus (I have a post rounding up my favorites on the way). It’s relaxing to put your phone and other electronics away for a bit and read instead.¬†I’m currently reading 13 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do by Amy Morin and I highly recommend it to anyone who has even a slight interest in their own mental health and strength. ¬†Even just halfway in, I’m learning how to be more powerful emotionally.

4. Take a bath

Baths fix everything! Sore muscles, a stressed mind, boredom. I could go on and on. A warm bath with bath salts, a LUSH bath bomb, and or Dr. Teal’s bubble bath will ease your mind and muscles. Take one at night to get ready for bed or after the gym to soothe your achey body. You can even pour yourself a glass of wine and light a candle! Combine whatever you love with a bath and you’ll feel less stressed.

5. Go to the gym

This is another one that many people may not find relaxing, but it personally clears my head. Whether I’m doing cardio or weightlifting, I have my music playing and I don’t think about anything other than what I’m currently doing it. I space out in the gym, which is why it’s so ideal for a self-care day. On Sundays, I do legs because they require the most focus for me.

Whatever self-care activities you do, just make sure you love them! I’ve found that dedicating a day, or at least part of one, to focusing on myself, my wellness, and goals has proven helpful. My mind is more clear and I generally feel happier.
