Like I’ve mentioned so many times before, fall is my favorite season and it just so happens to be Austin’s too! Everything about it from the crisp air and colorful foliage to the possibilities of pumpkin spice lattes, apple cider donuts, wearing boots, and more excites me more than I can put into words. It sounds insanely cliche, but there’s just something about it that makes me feel so cozy and warm inside. I feel like everything is right when it’s fall and that’s how I’m so positive that it’s my favorite time of year.
With October here, I felt like I had to write this post! So, I’m sharing some of my favorite fall activities and more fall photos to give you all of the fall feels (in case you don’t have them quite yet). Keep reading below and check it out!
Visiting an orchard
It’s hard to do this if you live in the city without a car, but Austin and I like to go to Schultz Fruitridge Farms in Michigan when we’re there for Thanksgiving. While there, it’s essential for us to buy a pumpkin, a bag of Honeycrisp apples (so sweet), apple cider donuts, and apple cider itself! Looking for orchards near the city? This roundup is a great one!
Decorating with fall decor
Once it finally starts to get cool, it’s a good idea to start breaking out the pumpkin and fall decor! This year, I got a lot of my stuff at Target (thanks, mom). While it probably doesn’t come as a surprise, their options each year are stellar! I’m so impressed with the variety and prices too, especially in the dollar section at the front of the store. They have great finds for $5/$10 and under. You can shop their fall collections this year here.
Attending a fall festival
Two weekends ago, Austin and I spent the afternoon walking around the Lincoln Park Zoo’s Fall Fest. Though 90% of the activities are for children, I’d definitely recommend this to anyone in the Chicago area! It’s simply nice to see the zoo in a different season. This weekend, I’m headed home to North Carolina where my parents reside to visit and go to the NC State Fair. If you’ve never been to a state fair, you MUST once in your life! They, of course, vary from state to state but the farm animals, unique food options, and more make it really fun. I love the cider and homemade kettle corn at the NC State Fair especially!
Baking a pumpkin pie
What says fall more than the smell of a pumpkin pie baking in the oven?! The answer is practically nothing. My mom’s pumpkin pie recipe is one of my favorites and I make it every year (it’s still not as good as hers, though). I LOVE heating mine up in the microwave for a bit and adding a dollop of whipped cream. If you’re not a huge fan of pumpkin or pumpkin pie, I also love the thought of making homemade applesauce in a crockpot or a delicious apple crisp. Both are sure to taste like fall!
Cozying up with a book
Cooler temperatures also mean more opportunities to cozy up on the couch or in bed with a blanket and a book. Light a fall scented candle and drink a cup of hot apple cider to set the mood even more! If it’s the early morning, open up your blinds and/or curtains to let in some natural light and open your windows to feel the fall breeze. Sounds like a perfect day to me!
