What to Wear: a Cold Spring Break

My friend Gretchen, who I knew from attending DePaul last year (she now goes to Marquette), and I decided to collaborate on a spring break post! For her spring break, she is going to Arizona and though not for my break, I am going to NYC for a trip to attend Teen Vogue’s Fashion University.Below, you’ll see the outfits I created for a weekend in NYC or any decently cold climate area! Be sure to look at Gretchen’s post about looks for a warmer climate like Arizona. Click here to read it!

Spring Break: NYC

As of late, New York has been cold so I decided that showing some leg isn’t really appropriate but showing ankle is! I always cuff my jeans a bit when I wear heels (especially heeled booties) or flats. If you’re wanting to know how to properly cuff jeans, read this article. This idea is what I based my outfits on.

For a casual outfit, combine d’orsay flats (which are trending right now) with basic denim and a crop top underneath a printed kimono. A black floppy hat and bucket bag complete the look. It’s casual enough to wear to a museum or lunch outing.

If you’re going to a dressy dinner, you could probably get away with wearing bare legs so long as you take a cab. Any simple dress would do put with black strappy heels and gold accessories. I’m a big fan of simple for ensembles you would wear to dinner or a broadway show.

As far as my wildcard, I felt like putting nude heels with some grey boyfriend denim since I’ve loved grey denim lately! To keep a monochromatic look, a white blouse underneath a lighter grey oversized wool coat makes this chic. Since I’ve started working at a bohemian boutique, I love big stone necklaces. This one and a pastel Rebecca Minkoff bag finish the outfit!

What would you wear to New York City if you had the chance to go? Let me know in the comments below so I can get inspired for my trip next weekend.
